WASHINGTON – The Motion Picture Association will honor J.A. Bayona, the highly acclaimed director and producer of film and television, with the 2024 MPA Creator Award. The MPA will present Bayona with the award at a ceremony in June in Madrid.

The MPA is honoring Bayona for his innovative approach to storytelling and ground-breaking films and TV shows that include Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Impossible and A Monster Calls. His latest film, Society of the Snow, has won widespread acclaim and is nominated for the Academy Award for best international feature film.

“The MPA is proud to honor J.A. Bayona, a creative force in our industry whose work pushes the boundaries of storytelling and celebrates the resilience of the human spirit,” said Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the MPA. “This Award recognizes Mr. Bayona for embodying the best of the global creative community.”

“I am very grateful to the Motion Picture Association for this great honor,” Bayona said. “It is such a privilege to be a filmmaker and to tell stories that are able to reach global audiences. I am very honored to accept the MPA Creator Award, and deeply grateful to the MPA for showcasing the impact and connection film is able to forge with audiences around the world.”

The MPA Creator Award is presented annually to an outstanding individual whose expert and brilliant display of their craft behind the camera has moved and shaped culture and helped audiences see the world in new and different ways. Creators make up a large part of the film, TV and streaming industry, which supports more than 2.7 million American jobs and $242 billion in wages. Previous honorees include directors Nikyatu Jusu and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

At the awards ceremony in Madrid, the MPA will also present its 2024 MPA Industry Champion Award, which is given each year to individuals who have promoted the growth of the creative economy by advancing dynamic policies that generate new opportunities for all creators.

The association will announce its 2024 Industry Champion Award recipient in the coming weeks.
