Statement from MPAA Chairman and CEO Senator Chris Dodd on the confirmation of Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation

February 1, 2017

WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, on the confirmation of Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation:

“The MPAA congratulates Elaine Chao on her confirmation as Secretary of Transportation. The U.S. film and television industry is at the forefront of innovation and economic growth, supporting nearly two million American jobs and nearly 89,000 businesses in all 50 states. The Department of Transportation allows our nation’s vibrant creative industries to incorporate innovative technologies into great storytelling, while creating opportunities for American workers. Through the Federal Aviation Administration’s efforts to expand the commercial use of unmanned aircraft systems, specifically, the film and television industry is preventing production revenues from leaving our shores, promoting domestic jobs, and supporting the U.S. aviation industry. The MPAA looks forward to working with Secretary Chao and her Transportation Department colleagues.”
