MPAA and Disney Host Screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

May 3, 2017

Last week, the MPAA joined Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios for a special Community give-back screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, coming to theaters May 5. In the sequel to the 2014 blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy, the fan-favorites Star-Lord, Gamora, and the entire galactic gang are back for a journey across the cosmos in search of Peter Quill’s dad. The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista, and features the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

To bring this action-packed story to life, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 team made Georgia its home. The production hired nearly 1,400 local crew and extras and spent $75 million across the state – on everything from hotel rooms and lumber supplies to camera rentals and scoring the original music.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is just one of the many fantastic creative productions coming out of this state, every day,” Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the MPAA, said in remarks before the screening. “In recent years, Georgia has vaulted to the number three production center in the United States – behind only New York and California.”

Thanks to the leadership of Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia legislature, the economic impact of film and television in Georgia is nothing short of impressive. During FY16, alone, 245 feature film and television productions were filmed across the Peach State, contributing more than $7 billion to the local economy and putting thousands of local residents to work in high-quality jobs.

Prior to the screening, attendees also heard from Bert Brantley, COO of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and David Grant, co-producer and Vice President of Physical Production for Marvel.
