MPA Promotes John Mercurio to Executive Vice President, Global Communications

August 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – The Motion Picture Association (MPA) today announced that John Mercurio, current Senior Vice President and Head of Communications at the MPA, will be promoted to Executive Vice President, Global Communications, effective Sept. 1, 2025.

Since he joined the MPA in 2020, Mercurio has seamlessly managed corporate communications, public relations, and digital and social media priorities for the organization. In his new role, he will continue to lead global communications for the MPA, report to MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin, and serve as a critical member of the MPA leadership team. Mercurio’s promotion does not change any reporting lines within the MPA.

“Over the past five years at the MPA, John Mercurio has become an indispensable leader of our organization – a trusted advisor, innovative thought partner, and exceptional strategic communicator. He has built strong relationships across our global organization, with our studios, and with reporters and industry experts alike. I am delighted that John will continue to lead our global communications team in this elevated role,” said Rivkin.

During his tenure, Mercurio has launched several strategic initiatives, including the annual MPA Awards, which honor film and TV creators and policymakers who champion the industry. He has supported the global growth of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the anti-piracy coalition powered by the MPA, and expanded an impact campaign that highlights the local economic benefits of production. He has also led the global rollout of key MPA announcements, including the news that Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios joined the association in 2024.

“It’s an honor to work alongside the world-class team Charlie has built at the MPA – and, in particular, to lead the inspiring communications experts who devote themselves every day to advancing this iconic American industry,” said Mercurio. “At a time of great challenge and great opportunity for the industry, I’m thrilled to play a key role in shaping its future growth and success.”
