Motion Picture Association Statement on USTR’s 2022 Notorious Markets Report
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Trade Representative today released its 2022 Notorious Markets report. The following is a statement on the report by Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin:
“The Motion Picture Association applauds Ambassador Tai, the staff of USTR and their partners for continuing to support a strong, healthy and dynamic legal marketplace for digital content around the world. The newly released 2022 Notorious Markets report targets and denounces the criminal global enterprises that seek to profit from the unauthorized distribution of creative content at the expense of creators, while putting consumers at risk. The annual report continues to be a blunt reminder of the stark challenges that piracy poses to the U.S. film, television, and streaming industry and the broader creative community around the world.
“As the report rightly notes, workers in our industry rely on robust copyright protections for their economic security. As our industry works to recover from the pandemic and build on its contributions to the United States economy, the MPA appreciates USTR’s recognition of these issues and how they intersect with the dangers of digital piracy to creators and consumers. We will continue to collaborate with USTR to promote and protect creative industries at home and around the world.”
