July 8, 2022

WASHINGTON  The following is a statement on the passing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin:

“The Motion Picture Association is shocked and deeply saddened today to learn of the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. His transformative leadership during his unprecedented nine years in office made him a global statesman and crucial ally to the United States. In particular, Abe was committed to strengthening Japan’s security and economic relationship with the U.S., which he eloquently proclaimed the ‘Alliance of Hope’ during his historic 2015 address to a joint session of Congress. We honor his remarkable legacy today, and we share our warmest condolences with his family and the people of Japan.”
