Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin on the Nomination of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative
WASHINGTON – President-elect Joe Biden this week nominated Katherine Tai to be U.S. Trade Representative. The following is a statement from Motion Picture Association Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin:
“We applaud President-elect Biden’s nomination of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative. Ms. Tai possesses deep policy expertise, a keen understanding of the unique value of trade and an appreciation for the importance of the creative sector to the US economy.
“The recovery and success of the U.S. film, television and streaming industry will have a far-reaching impact on the Biden Administration’s ability to rebuild our nation’s struggling economy. Supporting over 2.5 million American jobs, our industry is a key economic driver at home and represents one of our nation’s greatest exports. Our content is second to none and generates a positive trade balance with nearly every country in the world.
“The MPA and our member studios look forward to working with Ms. Tai and others in the Biden Administration to ensure that the federal government prioritizes the American creative sector when crafting and enforcing policies that affect our industry and the larger American workforce. This includes the industry’s ability to compete fairly in international markets and the importance of trade agreements in securing the rights of America’s unsurpassed creative community.”
