ANNIVERSARY

10 Years of the MPA APSA Academy Film Fund

November 12, 2019

We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the MPA APSA Academy Film Fund with the Embassy of Australia, the Embassy of Japan, and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards at our global headquarters in Washington, D.C.

More about this initiative from the Asia Pacific Screen Awards website:

Originated by APSA Academy members and their colleagues across the region, 40 projects from 22 countries and areas of the Asia Pacific have been supported through the initiative to date.

The MPA APSA Academy Film Fund has seen significant success since 2010 with some of the region’s leading filmmakers [being] recipients of this fund. The fund has supported filmmakers like Lee Chang-dong, Haifaa Al-Mansour, Rolf de Heer, and Asghar Farhadi. Films produced with the assistance of the fund have gone on [to] win the Academy Award ®, the Silver Bear, the international Emmy, and have played at the Cannes, Venice and Toronto festivals.

This extraordinary initiative is proving to have a major effect on film across the region and reflects the MPA’s ongoing commitment to developing the work of storytellers from right across the Asia Pacific.
