Morgan Teaser Hints at the Hybrid Biological Organism at Film’s Dark Heart
With a whiff of the great 2015 sci-fi film Ex Machina married to a horror film, director Luke Scott's Morgan looks very intriguing. The film focuses on a corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) who's sent to a remote, top-secret location (a bit like the remote, top-secret location where Oscar Isaac's billionaire tech wizard kept Ava, his sentient robot, in Ex Machina), where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. That accident was caused by Morgan, a young woman who appears to be human but is a whole lot more than that. In the parlance of the film, she's a "hybrid biological organism," half human, half synthetic, and totally incredible.
We shared the first trailer with you back in late June, which introduced us to the hybrid biological organism that is Morgan, but left the 'terrifying incident' that brings Mara's corporate troubleshooter to the location relatively unexplained. Now we see a glimpse of that incident, which is what makes Morgan a sci-fi thriller we're intrigued by—it's a murder mystery, of sorts.
Along with Mara (House of Cards, Fantastic Four), Morgan stars Anya Taylor-Joy (she wowed us in The Witch) as your titular figure, Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger, Infamous), Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, The Last Witch Hunter), Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl, Milk), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sunshine), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, The Machinist) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Straight Outta Compton).
Morgan hits theaters on September 2.
