Mysterious Secret Weapon at the Starkiller Base in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Force Friday wasn’t just a massive merchandising bacchanal (although it was that), it was also a chance for some new information on the film to be released. One such tidbit was the official naming of the Starkiller Base, which has been added to Starwars.com’s database. Described as an “ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order,” the Starkiller base is “armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems.”

The name “Starkiller” was inspired by George Lucas’s original surname for Luke in the first draft of the script for the first Star Wars film. We don’t know anything else about the base, or the weapon it holds (or if the planet itself is the weapon, like the first two Death Stars), but what we do know is the Starkiller base was one of a bunch of new additions to the databank that come directly from The Force Awakens. We'll be taking a look at those in another post. For now, speculate away on what this new weapon the Starkiller base is all about.
